Time delay and amplitude estimation in underwater acoustics: a Gibbs Sampling approach

چکیده
Multipath arrivals of a signal at a receiving sensor are frequently encountered in many areas of signal processing, including sonar, radar, and communication problems. In underwater acoustics, numerous approaches to source localization, geoacoustic inversion, and tomography rely on accurate multipath arrival extraction. In this work, a novel method for estimation of time delays and amplitudes of arrivals with Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) estimation is presented. MAP estimation is optimal if appropriate statistical models are selected for

Application of Model-Based Estimation to Time-Delay Estimation of Ultrasonic Testing Signals
Time-Delay-Estimation (TDE) has been a topic of interest in many applications in the past few decades. The emphasis of this work is on the application of model-based estimation (MBE) for TDE of ultrasonic signals used in ultrasonic thickness gaging. Ultrasonic thickness gaging is based on precise measurement of the time difference between successive echoes which reflect back from the back wall ...
متن کاملData Communication using OFDM System for Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network
In this paper, the low cost home-made underwater sensors are designed for underwater Acoustics Sensor Network. This system is used to read the values of pressure, temperature and salinity using these sensors under the water and then the values are transmitted from underwater sensor to base station receiver. The sensors are continuously reading these values. Here, the communication channel estim...
متن کاملMaximum a posteriori multiple source localization with Gibbs Sampling
Multiple source localization in underwater environments is approached within a matchedfield processing framework. A Maximum a Posteriori Estimation method is proposed that estimates source location and spectral characteristics of multiple sources via Gibbs Sampling. The method facilitates localization of weak sources which are typically masked by the presence of strong interferers. A performanc...
متن کاملTranslation Invariant Approach for Measuring Similarity of Signals
In many signal processing applications, an appropriate measure to compare two signals plays a fundamental role in both implementing the algorithm and evaluating its performance. Several techniques have been introduced in literature as similarity measures. However, the existing measures are often either impractical for some applications or they have unsatisfactory results in some other applicati...
متن کاملA Signal Processing Approach to Estimate Underwater Network Cardinalities with Lower Complexity
An inspection of signal processing approach in order to estimate underwater network cardinalities is conducted in this research. A matter of key prominence for underwater network is its cardinality estimation as the number of active cardinalities varies several times due to numerous natural and artificial reasons due to harsh underwater circumstances. So, a proper estimation technique is mandat...
